Help Shape the Future of Aesthetic Governance in New Zealand
Aesthetic medicine in Aotearoa is at a crossroads – and your voice matters.
“Should the future of aesthetics be controlled by one professional group – or co-designed by a panel that actually represents you?”
A doctor-led society in New Zealand is currently consulting with its members about becoming the sole regulatory and training authority for aesthetic professionals across the country.
But the reality is:
- Nurses, dentists, pharmacists, midwives, and other allied health professionals safely deliver the majority of aesthetic treatments in New Zealand
- The current system grounded in clinical governance, standing orders, prescribing partnerships, and professional accountability – is working
- Any future framework must be multidisciplinary, inclusive, and reflective of how care is actually delivered
Why Your Input Matters
Whether you’re a practitioner or a client of aesthetic services, your insight helps shape a regulatory framework that protects both public safety and workforce autonomy.
We’re inviting:
- Aesthetic professionals to share their views on training, oversight, and professional representation
- Consumers to share their experiences and expectations around safety, trust, and who they believe should be delivering and overseeing treatment

About CANNZ
The Clinical Aesthetic Network of New Zealand (CANNZ) is a national organisation supporting the nurses and allied health professionals who make up the majority of NZ’s aesthetic workforce.
Since 2016, we’ve championed:
- Safe, evidence-based care through audits, peer-led training, and education
- Cultural safety and equity, grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Transparent complaints and accreditation systems to protect the public
- Advocacy for fair, proportionate regulation in partnership with regulators and the public
We believe aesthetic care should be safe, accessible, and led by the professionals who actually provide it – not governed by a single discipline.
